Halloween Punch Needle Witchy Bird

Hello,  Already in the shops I saw Christmas items going up.  So I thought I better catch up. Heres my next project.  A halloween bird.  I'm not ready for Christmas.  I love punch needle because it goes faster than some other needlework techniques.  I have found embellishing punch needle designs is endless.   I gave the candy corns a more painterly look here.  I am not sure if I want to put this on a halloween candy bag or turn it into a more carousel type ornament.     Thanks for looking,  Jana

Punch Needle. The Horse Menagerie Carousel .

Almost have the opposite side of the carousel done.  Wow he is taking a long time to complete.
I really like to give these carousels a painterly look.

Thanks,

Morgan No-Slip Hoop with Punch Needle

The Morgan No-Slip Hoop will hold your fabric drum tight.  It does so throughout your project just like it advertises.

You can see the difference between this and the Susan Bates Hoops.  It has a more beveled type of inter lock system.  I do like this hoop for punch needle. More so for  projects larger than 7 inches.

Thanks for looking,

Jana

Hoops I Like for Punch Needle

Susan Bates Hoops are nice to work with.  They work well for  needlework.  Punch needle tends to loosen the fabric in the hoop.  I found that I needed to keep re-tightening the fabric.

The Super -Grip- Lip is the key feature on the Susan Bates Hoops.

I found it helpful to wrap the inside hoop with yarn so I do not have to re-tighten the fabric as much.  I like the design to fit just inside the hoop.
Thanks,  Jana

Stick Horse Punch Needle

Here are my new projects.  These are vintage like. The Stick Horse.  Wow a time gone by.  I enjoyed creating these characters and decorating them.  I painted the dowels and the candle bulbs for the carousel pole.  There is the long beaded reins for the imaginary rider.  They are then stuffed. They can take up to 12 -14 hours to create.  These are 13 inches long and I am making them for Christmas stocking stuffers.

Punch needle is something I discovered one afternoon while shopping around Occoquan Va.  A cute small town with unique shops.  I saw a small miniature punch needle rug looking like something out of the mid 1800 's.  It was beautiful.  I have been doing needle punch ever since. I have had friends ask me to do a tutorial on needle punch so I have been working on that and hope to have one up soon.  Jana

The Storm Jar Project on Amazon Kindle

Last year I published a Kindle book called, "Decorative Painting Project."  It is about making a storm jar.  Some people call it a hurricane jar.  These jars hold spare candles and matches when the lights go out.

I found a clay pot in an old shop along the coast.  I bought some potting clay that will air dry.  I took the clay and turned the lid into a candle holder.  Then I painted the jar to represent a captain of his ship standing his own through a midnight storm out on the open seas.

The jar looks nice on a mantle or next to a fireplace.  I have made several of these storm jars and given them as gifts.  Decorative painting is a pleasant pass time.  The book has plenty of color photos showing how to apply the clay and step by step painting instructions and the design included. If you would like to try this project check it out on Amazon kindle.  Keep matches away from the little ones.

 Always,
 Jana

Carousel Rabbit Punch Needle

Hi Everyone,

The Rabbit Menagerie Figure.

Oh those colorful and magical Carousel days!  (Golden age 1840-1930).  Sad to think an old art form gone by. There are less than 200 left!

Carousels  (Italian - Carosello)  where first introduced to the USA in the early 1800's.  A beautiful era gone by.

I decided to mix this era with an old Russian embroidery technique.  Here you see what was called the
Jumper.  He is the Carousel figure that has all four feet off the ground suspended through the air.  Thanks for looking,  Jana

Shell Wreath

We had a great relaxing day making seashell wreaths! A glass of wine each and some friends got the job done! I left with a nautical wreath for the door of our guest room. Gather all your materials and wrap the wreath with hemp cord the day before and don't forget to make a loop with the hemp so you can hang the project.  You need a quality glue gun, hemp, hay wreath, and sea shells to make project.  So grab some friends and make a shell wreath in an afternoon! Thanks,  Jana

The Masquerade Punch Needle Kit

Hi Everybody!

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite pieces. "The Masquerade" was completed with the inspiration of "Mardi Gras."  I remember seeing a pet once dressed up and running around the perimeter of a parade. The pet was having a good time and was getting a lot of attention from the bystanders. His face was cute and the costume was vibrant. So, I made this piece in memory of that moment. Time to party!

Frosty Update!

Hi Everybody!

Here's the latest on my "Frosty" petit point piece.  It is time consuming but is coming along.
I am enjoying this piece. The trees on the right side were completed today. Hopefully, I will have the trees on the left side finished soon.

Let me know what you think!

Daisies Miniature Rug Needle Punch Kit

The inspiration behind the "Daisies" piece was associated with purity, innocence, loyal love, beauty, patience, and simplicity.  The interesting part of the Daisy is that it only blossoms during daylight.
Other methodology suggests that it keeps away the lightning.

Always,

Jana

The Weeping Wisteria Miniature Punch Needle Kit

The Weeping Wisteria Kit was inspired by the Japanese kabuki drama "Fuji Musume" (Wisteria Maiden).  The maiden attempts to seduce the man of her dreams by stepping outside the painting but receives his rejection. She possesses the Wisteria branch during this attempt.  After her futile attempt to win her man's heart, she returns to her painting, sorrowful, bearing the branch of the "Wisteria."

New Project! Frosty in Petite Point

A little early for Christmas, but I decided to get started early. Even though we don't get snow in Florida, I still wanted to do this piece. This piece is 1 x 1.25 inch in size and will probably became a Christmas ornament or sachet!

I will post the finished product when I get done!

Regards!

Jana

Jana

Hi Everybody!

I am starting this new blog on Memorial Day 2013! A special day and we would like to thank all of those who have served our country and protected our freedom! So once again THANK YOU!

I am so excited about what has happened over the last few months.  My online retail store, Safe harbor Home Boutique, got off to a great start.

My initial love for needle work took me into places never imagined. The Miniature Rose Rug Punch Needle Kit became my best seller.  The Santa and the Reindeer Sleigh Punch Needle Kit is one of my favorites! Other popular favorites involved my Language of Flowers Miniature Rug Line inspired by my Mother's love of gardening.  The Weeping Wisteria, Tree of Hearts, Daisies and Masquerade were fun to complete and have sold as well.

Now, I am selling on Etsy!  It offers some of my punch needle kits as well as some finished projects.

My love of arts and crafts will continue to be my guiding light in building my dream of bringing to you the things that inspire me in the hopes that the time spent developing these inspirations will bring meaning to your life.

So, from time to time, I will share my ongoing projects with you.  At the same time provide to you the meaning behind my inspirations so you will fully appreciate the purpose behind my creation.

I look forward to sharing this experience with you. So please check back with me often!

Sincerely,

Jana
